Barcelona’s season has been one of little stability, with ups and downs, and few moments of comfort for anyone. However there is a clear stretch in which things went best, and that was after Andreas Christensen moved into midfield.

According to Sport , the idea was suggested to Xavi Hernandez by Sporting Director Deco. He and his staff were open to the idea, and began working on it in training, before eventually implementing it in February. Deco felt that Christensen had the qualities to carry out the role, and no doubt many will recall the teams that the Brazilian-Portuguese played in, with Frank Rijkaard often using Edmilson or Rafael Marquez in the same role, as players that could also operate in defence.

Since arriving at Barcelona, Deco’s expertise have been plagued with doubts, being his first time as a sporting director, taking over from a proven expert in Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff. Those doubts have only increased as Vitor Roque, ‘his signing’ as Vice-President Rafa Yuste described it, looks to be on his way out of the club after just six months. This report should aid his public image, which has taken some hits in recent months.
