The Cincinnati Reds have signed Alex Young to a one year, $1.16 million contract to avoid arbitration according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
This is the first year that Young is eligible for arbitration. Players who have three or more years of service time are eligible.
Young was a key member of the Reds bullpen last season. He sported a 3.86 ERA across 53 2/3 innings in 63 games. It was the most innings he pitched in a season since he started 15 games for the Diamondbacks his first year in the bigs.
Young will compete for a spot in the 2024 bullpen that includes other lefties in Sam Moll and non-roster invitee Justin Bruihl.
